The University of New England is seeking to appoint two motivated librarians with a commitment to client focus, providing support for researchers and the intelligent use of technology to support learning and teaching in a team based environment.

The positions are within the Learning and Research Services department and the incumbents will work with academic and general staff, students and researchers within specific Schools in both liaison and support roles, to facilitate research and teaching, including development and delivery of face-to-face and online courses. They will also be involved in providing reference and research support to distance students. The incumbents will work as part of a team to develop both the collections and services for the University community with a focus on provision for distance students.

QULOC Executive Officer Vacancy 2012-2014

QULOC is seeking an Executive Officer for a two year period commencing February/March 2012. The QULOC Executive Officer works closely with the Convenor, and provides executive support to the University Librarians' Committee and the QULOC Working Parties. The position is expected to be filled by secondment and is for 21.75 hours (3 days) per week for two years. Applications are sought from qualified library staff or suitably experienced Information Services staff. The salary will be in the range of HEW 7, however staff currently classified at a higher level may be considered for the position without jeopardising their normal salary.

The position requires a broad knowledge of the issues being considered by QULOC and its Working Parties, high-level communication and organisational skills, demonstrated initiative and ability to work without close supervision.

QULOC has been in existence for almost twenty years and has grown considerably during that time. As the current Strategic Plan is about to be reviewed, the University Librarians would like to seek feedback to ensure that QULOC is serving our needs as well as possible.

A survey has been released for Library staff in all QULOC institutions. It's designed to find out how valuable QULOC is to you, what works well, and what could be improved. The survey will run until Friday 25th March 2011, and responses are anonymous. The results will be collated and used to inform the review of the Strategic Plan and QULOC operations.

The annual QULOC University Librarians' Forum will be held on Thursday 18th November 2010. This year it will be hosted by the University of Queensland.

What is the University Librarians' Forum?
The Forum is a day for library staff to meet, mingle, and learn about what is happening at other institutions. You will have the chance to see the new PACE (Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence) Health Sciences Library at Woolloongabba, and tour the revamped Library and Learning Spaces at the St Lucia campus.

In the afternoon, there will be presentations from Heather Gordon of James Cook University, Des Stewart from Southern Cross University, and Keith Webster from the University of Queensland. There will also be time for you to address questions to a panel of University Librarians, and hear their thoughts and ideas about libraries and librarianship.

CAVAL Executive Leadership Program welcomes guest speakers and extends deadline for nominations for 2010

An eclectic range of leaders will join the CAVAL Executive Leadership Program in August and November to share their experiences and hopes for the future with program participants. They will be joined by leaders from university, state and special library backgrounds to discuss the program’s central premise: while leadership is challenging and sometimes difficult, especially in today’s complex environment, it also affords an amazing opportunity to make a positive difference to people’s lives.

The CAVAL program asks participants to identify and explore where they want to go next and why. Its strong problem solving strand tackles these key questions by looking at common barriers and experimenting with practical tools. The personal stories, insights and philosophies of practising leaders from across the library profession and outside it, will invite robust conversation.
